The jouney of the German fruit business to become a climate neutral company began in 2017, when the main production site in Kressbronn at Lake Constance achieved climate neutrality for its onsite processes. From 2018 on, all activities at the grading, storing and packing facilities in Germany have been climate neutral. To achieve this, BayWa Obst engages in climate protection related to the principle “avoid, reduce, compensate” with concrete objectives. The data collected for this purpose is audited annually by a recognised auditing company and contribute to BayWa’s Sustainability Report. CO2 emissions remaining after the implemented active reduction measures are being offset by investing in certified high-quality climate protection projects.

BayWa Obst GmbH & Co. KG is the first climate-neutral business unit of BayWa AG in Germany. This journey is part of the sustainability strategy of BayWa Global Produce, a newly founded subsidiary of BayWa AG bundling the entire fresh produce business since 2021 including the Group’s German and international activities. Following the example of the German Fruit business, the affiliated international companies also work on this strategic goal. Today, all European sites of BayWa Global Produce already operate on a climate-neutral basis.

Our business activities and products are built upon our environment and natural resources. Climate protection is of great importance to us, that is why we want to make a positive difference – be it through the reduction of CO2 emissions or the responsible use of natural ressources.

Managing Director, BayWa Obst

Following the principle “avoid, reduce, compensate” , various measures have been implemented to reduce CO2 emissions resulting from using electricity, diesel, petrol, gas and heating oil. For example by switching to LED lighting, installing high-speed doors to prevent cooling losses, replacing refrigerants that are harmful to the climate and using green electricity  For remaining residual emissions, BayWa Obst compensates by financially supporting high-quality and certified climate protection projects.

BayWa Obst’s main pack-house in Kressbronn at Lake Constance kicked off the climate-neutrality journey in 2017. Since June 2018, the company’s remaining sites in southern Germany have also been climate-neutral. These include the organic pack-house in Ravensburg, the sites in Ailingen, and Oberteuringen at Lake Constance and the site in Oehringen located in the Neckar region.
